How to Make Sure your Children Aren’t Watching Inappropriate Content

As a parent, it is normal to want to do everything that you can to stop your children from seeing inappropriate content, as the world becomes a much more multimedia place you have multiple sources of content that you must protect your children from. It is a common worry amongst parents that with the internet and the multiple devices that are owned by our children they can easily access inappropriate content that they are not ready to see, you are not being overprotective by monitoring what they are watching and you should not feel guilty for wanting to do so.

Monitoring Their Online Browsing

The great thing about technology is that there are already measures in place so that parents are able to monitor what their children are looking at on the internet, all you need to do is link your email account to your children using the parental control section of your browser and you will be sent a weekly report of the time they spent online as well as any websites they looked at. This is a great tool for parents who are worried about their children being exposed to inappropriate content online as you can clearly see what they are looking at on a weekly basis, also the fact that it tells you how much time they spent online is a great thing as it allows you to look at whether they are spending too much time on their devices and you can then implement a timing schedule for tech time.

You can also alter these parental controls as your children get older and if you feel that they are responsible enough to have more freedom with their online browsing. As your children grow into young adults you don’t want to be invasive in terms of looking at what they are browsing online so it really is a great thing that these controls can be altered to be more lenient when it is suitable.

Encouraging Your Children to Spend Less Time With Technology

One of the best ways to make sure that your children are not watching inappropriate content would have to be encouraging them to spend more time doing activities that do n0ot revolve around going online or watching videos. It can be very beneficial to both your own and your child’s physical and mental health to dedicate a few hours a day doing something healthy away from technology, your children are only going to want to play on their devices more and more as they get older so spending time with them when they are young is a great way to preserve their innocence and have some fun.

Videos and Television

It is a common worry that the content and videos your children watch on the TV and online are not suitable for their age group, with top platform Youtube being one of the most concerning streaming sites out there. The thing about Youtube is that it has turned into a huge money-making platform so it is not always clear what people’s true intentions are when they make a video, and in fact, you can actually buy real views on youtube to make it seem like you are doing better than you are. With this in mind, I would highly recommend that you put parental controls onto your child’s account so that you can make sure they are not watching things that they shouldn’t be, and that they are not being exposed to any creators whose intentions are not in the right place and their focus is on the money they can make.

How to Protect your Children while they are Gaming Online

As you may well know, gaming online is hugely popular amongst children. Social media and online gaming have become the primary method of communication and social interaction for the younger generations. By using smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, and laptops, children have access to games pretty much anytime, anyplace. It’s not unusual to become worried for the safety of your child as they game online. I know I definitely worried. If you are looking to protect children from cyberbullying, addictive behaviors, or even malware from dodgy websites, here are a few simple strategies that can help you.

Communication is key

Agree with your children on how long and when they can play. Set boundaries to make sure that they do not spend all of their time playing online and feel alienated from the ‘real’ world. Come up with a schedule with set hours that seems reasonable. You could also introduce them to other hobbies and activities so that online gaming doesn’t become their only interest. They will highly benefit from a bit of diversity and structure, as it will help them focus on other tasks such as school homework or being with their friends. And when comes the time to play they will appreciate it even more and not take it for granted.

Maintaining privacy

Online games are often played using an online chat; make sure that your children are using nicknames that do not reveal their true identity. Talk to them about not sharing any of their personal information such as; passwords addresses and phone numbers. I have found that my kids were more sensible and careful once I informed them of some of the dangers. Children like to feel trusted. If you inform them and trust them, rather than punish them for any mistakes they make, they are far more likely to stay safe online.

Install parental control software

Parental control tools, such as filters and blocks, will help you manage what your children are exposed to while online. A lot of adverts and pop-ups can contain malware or inappropriate material. You can also have control over time-limits, meaning your children cant play longer than their designated hours. This software may take some time to install and set-up. But it is well worth it for the peace of mind.

Engage with your children’s interests

The games our children play may be different from the games you may play. But one key tactic in making sure your children are being safe is to engage with them and play their games. Even though rainbow six is one of my favorite games, I was more than happy to give Fortnite a try considering how much my children love it. Spending time with them while gaming is a great way to bond with them as well as keeping them safe.

Prevent your kids from too much isolation

Loneliness in children is not unheard of. But it is an issue that is often ignored. And it is one of the driving forces that lead to childhood gaming addiction. So it is important you make sure your child is engaging, not only with you but with other children in the real world. Maybe sign them up for some sports activities or after-school clubs.

How to Help Soothe Your Child’s Upset Tummy

Children are very susceptible to pretty much any illness. If you are someone that has a child, you are probably more than familiar with the constant complaints of pain or sickness. Is there any wonder why your child gets so sick? After all, they spend almost every day in a building surrounded by children. Let’s face it, children aren’t exactly the most hygiene-conscious people and so any illnesses get passed around like hotcakes.

One of the most frequently described and arguably one of the most frustrating sicknesses that your child can have is an upset tummy. Unlike with other illnesses, you can’t really diagnose what could be causing it. A lot of the time, you can’t even be sure that your child is even experiencing an upset tummy due to the lack of visual symptoms.

Assuming that your child is in fact struggling with an upset tummy, it can be hard to work out what the best treatment is. Don’t worry, we have a few tried and tested solutions that can help with your child’s upset tummy.

Sticking to water

Though you may not know this, one of the biggest reasons that children experience an upset tummy is due to a diet packed with sugar. Children eat a lot of food during their early development ages, so sometimes it can be hard to avoid them overeating and taking in a lot of sugar. It can also be extremely hard to stop your child from eating sugary snacks. However, one way that you can intervene and cut down on sugar is by making sure that your child only drinks liquids like water and milk. Sticking to drinks like that will settle your child’s stomach and prevent any tummy pain.

Natural remedies

If you are someone who doesn’t enjoy turning to medication to treat your children, then you may often find yourself in a difficult situation. Your child may be complaining that they have a tummy ache, but is that enough to fill them with a long list of unnatural ingredients? If this is something that you often find yourself overcoming, then worry not. At any pharmacy or holistic store, you can easily find some solutions that only include completely natural ingredients. We recommend purchasing items such as multi-vitamins or turmeric capsules, these will give your child some much-needed energy and also help to deal with any unfortunate aches.

The hot water bottle method

A lot of people think that using a hot water bottle to deal with a stomach ache is nothing more than an old wives tale. However, science proves that using a hot compress in the area of pain, eg a water bottle can help to shut down the pain responses in that area. This will alleviate any pain that your child may be feeling, however, it is only a temporary solution and is only really used so that your child can comfortably sleep without being in extreme pain.
