How to Introduce your Pet to Your Newborn Baby Safely

The period when you bring your new baby home is a very surreal time especially if it is your first time experiencing something like this, for many of us pets are part of the family do it is important that you take the time to properly introduce your pets to your new baby to help ensure a loving relationship is formed between them. There is no proper rule book of when and how you should do this but if you are unsure of anything I would highly recommend that you take things slowly.

A huge part of properly forming this relationship is that you will need to make it clear to your pet that the new baby is not a threat and that they should be treated just like any other member of the family, if your pet is getting too rough with your new baby then you should also work on training your pet to be a little softer in its approach when interacting with your baby. There are many things that you can do to ensure this process runs as smoothly as possible but do not hesitate to do your own research to contact friends who have been through it also if you need assistance with anything.

Creating a Calm environment

When the day comes that your baby and pet are going to meet for the first time you should do everything you can to make sure the environment is calm and positive as both will pick up off of these emotions. Using lighting, music and home comforts for both your baby and pet will help to create a sense of familiarity for your pet especially which will help to keep them feeling calm when they are meeting this new person. You should stay close to your pet and baby at all times and speak to them as they meet to convey to both that everything is okay.

Supervision

Your pet and baby should be under constant supervision for their first few meetings especially when your baby is at such a young age, this is not exactly dowed to your pet and I am not saying that your pet will attack your baby but until you are sure your pet is comfortable and calm around this new presence in the home I would stay with them until you are happy that they are forming a loving relationship. By making sure you are present during these interactions you are also providing your pet with a level of familiarity that will help this new meeting go smoothly as your pet should feel more comfortable when you are present.

Calming Treatments

One way that you can calm your pet down is by giving them a CBD-infused product, this may not sound safe but you will be glad to know that cbd dog treats is safe to use and that they have a number of different health benefits including calming down erratic behavior. Using CBD products with your pets is a great way that you can ensure the first meeting between your new baby and your pet goes well as any excitement or boisterous behavior will be subdued enough that they can both relax.

Ensuring That Both Baby and Pet are Happy

When anything new is happening for your pet it is important to take the time and effort to ensure that they are as happy as possible, this is very important as any negativity within both baby and pet’s moods could have a negative effect on their first interaction. You should also make sure that your baby is happy in order to avoid the nightmare scenario of a crying outburst which could also upset your pet and put them off the baby. By making sure that both are happy before and during the first meeting you are also helping to calm them down as they both feel safe and content with their surroundings.

Making an Effort to Allow regular Contact Between Baby and Pet

The final way on this list that you can make sure your newborn baby and your pet get along is to make them both a constant in each other’s lives, as is the case with anything new it will take some getting used to on both parties. However, if you want to speed up the development of their relationship you will need to find the time in the day that they can sit with each other every day. This will help the relationship to really grow to the point that they consider each other a member of the other’s family, by simply ensuring that both baby and pet are happy during said interactions it is likely that they will get along very well. This regulated contact also helps to make sure that they go on being friends as both get older.

How to Battle Anxiety and Depression in your Children

It is said that the latest generation is the most educated, yet most mentally exhausted. Anyone that has been born in the last couple of decades has had to deal with the stress of the Earth starting to fail and some of the tensest political relationships that there has ever been. This stressful world has only been intensified in the last couple of years due to the introduction of the pandemic. Many of our children have had to do a lot of growing up confined to their houses and many of them have experienced two birthdays while locked indoors.

Thanks to all of the craziness and stress of the world, there is no wonder why there have been more reports than ever of mental turmoil. The most recent generation is being referred to as the ‘woke’ generation, as they are able to see all of the racial, political injustice within the world, which would make anyone feel uneasy.

Records show that more young adults have been seeking mental health help than ever before and so if you are someone that has a child, you may be worried about their mental health. If you have stumbled across this article, then it is likely that you have already started noticing signs that your child’s mental health is on the decline. Fortunately, anxiety and depression don’t need to be a permanent part of your child’s life and there are things that you can do to try and help. Here is how to battle anxiety and depression in your children.

Speak to them about their feelings

Before you even think of seeking any medical assistance, you should first sit your child down and try to open up a conversation about their feelings. Now, this may be uncomfortable but it is essential to determining whether or not you should seek further help. Sometimes all that your child needs is to get it all out and as your parent, you should be able to be a safe space for them to do so.

When you first set your child down, it is likely that they will not tell you what is going on straight away. This is perfectly normal, as it’s a difficult topic to talk about and they may not even fully understand how they feel. We recommend that if they are resistant to talk about it straight away, tell them that you have noticed that something isn’t quite right and you are ready to talk about it whenever they are. By taking this approach, your child will know that they have someone to turn to when their feelings get overwhelming. Telling them that you have noticed their behavior may also serve as a wake-up call that they need to reach out on their own, as they may have previously believed that their symptoms were not too bad.

Seek Medical Advice

If your child opens up to you and tells you about their feelings, you can plan out your next move from there. If you speak to your child and their symptoms seem severe, then you should contact medical help. Unless you are a medical or psychological professional, there is only so much you can do for your child through talking and if you really want them to get the help they need, contact your doctor.

Your doctor may be able to offer treatment plans for your child’s anxiety or depression, such as therapy or medication. We recommend that you let your child take the lead on this one, and you should request them to tell their doctors exactly what they told you.

You could enter the doctor’s room with them for support, but if you feel as though they will feel more comfortable talking alone, you can just offer them support when they are finished. Depending on the age of your child, you will be able to get a diagnosis from the doctor, or your child may be sent for additional appointments to get to the bottom of their problem.

For anxiety and depression, it is likely that you will get the option of either therapy or medication. Though the choice is up to your child, we recommend that you suggest therapy first. Sometimes all that people need to do is vent their anxieties, so try this before going for something that can chemically alter your child.

Do what you can to help them at home

Something that you should do is make sure that your child’s home life is as stress-free and easy as it can possibly be. Monitor how much homework your child is doing and how much time they are spending alone in their rooms, as when they are alone their feelings are likely to be worse. We recommend that you welcome them after a long day with a comforting hot drink and a little catch-up, if your child is experiencing really bad anxiety we recommend that you add a few drops of cbd oil to their hot drink, as CBD oil is known to have calming effects that can help combat stress and anxiety. It is also a completely natural ingredient, so if you are worried about your child potentially choosing to be medicated, you can first introduce them to CBD oils as a less body invasive alternative and if this doesn’t work, you can then look at alternatives.

Great Active Hobbies your Children will Absolutely Love

When it comes to keeping your children occupied it can be hard to find a balance between making sure that they are having fun and doing the things that they actually want to do and ensuring they are getting a healthy amount of exercise on a regular basis. It is important that your children have a good relationship with their health and encouraging them to have fun whilst they are getting some exercise is one of the best ways that you can do this and set them up for a happy and healthy future.

If you are looking for ways that you can encourage your children to implement active hobbies into their lifestyle, I would recommend that you first introduce some equipment around the home to establish what kind of activities your children may be interested in. You can pick up gymnastics bars for home, football nets, or basketball hoops for the garden at pretty reasonable prices so why not try installing your own at home this summer to see how your children get on with them. This is one of the best ways that you can naturally encourage your children to have fun whilst they are getting involved in a new active hobby.

Football

Playing football is a very high-energy activity that when done regularly will help you and your children improve your fitness and help you go on to live healthy lives. You can start getting your children interested in playing football by simply suggesting that you have a few games at home. If this goes well and you feel that it is something your children could pursue, why not look at getting them involved in a local team or young footballing scheme to take the hobby to the next level and help them hone their skills further.

Virtual Sports

If like most,  your children have a huge interest in video games you could try finding some common ground by introducing virtual sports to them, this way they are doing something that they enjoy and are likely to continue whilst they also get some form of exercise. Technology has come so far that it is now possible to get a realistic and strenuous exercise regime without leaving the comfort of your own home which is something that would appeal to many people as it allows a degree of privacy whilst you are working out.

Running / Walks

Active hobbies do not just have to be about doing some form of exercise, having any hobby that you enjoy can provide an escape from the things that are stressing you out in life, and going on a run or a walk can be extremely beneficial in this regard. Getting your children to get outdoors and spend some time in the fresh air could be crucial not only for your own but for your loved ones’ physical and mental health. This activity can be done by anyone and if it gets your children away from their devices it can only be a good thing.

Camping

As mentioned previously, for a hobby to help your children maintain their health it doesn’t mean that it has to be a strenuous workout, it can be highly beneficial for your mind and body to spend time outdoors and camping provides the perfect opportunity to do so. If you are unsure about letting your children camp alone then why not try having a trial run in your garden to see if it is something that they would enjoy. This hobby could really affect your children for the rest of their lives in a way that encourages them to spend time and appreciate the outdoors well into adulthood.

6 Ways to Help Boost your Child’s Confidence

If you look back on your childhood, you will probably agree that your formative years were some of the most uncomfortable years of your life. Your body was growing in weird and uncomfortable ways and the children around you were probably not that nice, as children can be.

If you are someone with a child, then you may have noticed that they do not feel a lot of self-confidence. This is perfectly normal, as most people that are young experience uncertainty within themselves. Though it is completely normal, it doesn’t need to be permanent. Here are 6 ways to help boost your child’s confidence.

Be their biggest fan

One of the best ways that you can improve the confidence of your child is by constantly reminding them that they are beautiful and they are important.  By offering them a confidence boost that they may not get from anywhere else, you will make your child feel a lot better about themselves.

Sometimes children don’t care about the opinions of their parents because that is just how children act. In order to further improve their confidence, you could always insist that they find out if you’re pretty with this am I pretty quiz, as this may give them the boost they need.

Help them make any changes that they want to

If your child is uncomfortable about how they dress or certain elements of their appearance, you can help them change that. Your child’s happiness is your priority, so if they want more stylish clothes, then you should help them.

Now, we aren’t saying that you should let your child make drastic changes to their appearance, but even little changes can make all the difference when it comes to their self-confidence.

Get them involved in sport

If you want your child to be more confident, get them involved in a sport. Not only will doing sports keep them healthy, but it will allow them to make friends and become more independent.

The more that they achieve within their sporting area, the more confidence that they will become within themselves. This is because athletes often gain a lot of praise and appreciation from their coaches and teammates.

In every sport, you need to be able to communicate well with your team and so this is a skill your child will be able to apply to the real world, which will be really useful for them in terms of building their confidence.

Make sure they keep good company

Though you may not notice it, the company that your child keeps may be what is lowering their confidence. Children can be cruel and even if you think they are friends with your child, they could be being mean and dragging their confidence down.

Be sure to take notice of the way that your child is engaging with their friends, as they could be being treated poorly without you even noticing. If you do find your child is being mistreated, encourage them to find new friends or even get them to join clubs where they can.

Give them independence

If you make all the decisions in their life, then your child will not have the confidence to do this going forward. You need to give your child some independence to allow them to grow up and make decisions for themselves.

They can only depend on you for so long, so giving them independence early on will allow them to prepare for the world around them.  Independence is the best gift you can offer them, as this will give them the space they need to be able to build confidence

Handle mistakes well

Children often make mistakes, so you can choose to get mad at them and scorn them for these mistakes or you can inform them that mistakes are no big deal and happen to everyone.

Approaching mistakes in a positive way will allow your child to feel better in themselves and build confidence in their ability.  Even as adults, we make mistakes so if you remind your child that this is the case, then they will process any future mistakes that they may make less harshly.

How to Make Sure your Children Aren’t Watching Inappropriate Content

As a parent, it is normal to want to do everything that you can to stop your children from seeing inappropriate content, as the world becomes a much more multimedia place you have multiple sources of content that you must protect your children from. It is a common worry amongst parents that with the internet and the multiple devices that are owned by our children they can easily access inappropriate content that they are not ready to see, you are not being overprotective by monitoring what they are watching and you should not feel guilty for wanting to do so.

Monitoring Their Online Browsing

The great thing about technology is that there are already measures in place so that parents are able to monitor what their children are looking at on the internet, all you need to do is link your email account to your children using the parental control section of your browser and you will be sent a weekly report of the time they spent online as well as any websites they looked at. This is a great tool for parents who are worried about their children being exposed to inappropriate content online as you can clearly see what they are looking at on a weekly basis, also the fact that it tells you how much time they spent online is a great thing as it allows you to look at whether they are spending too much time on their devices and you can then implement a timing schedule for tech time.

You can also alter these parental controls as your children get older and if you feel that they are responsible enough to have more freedom with their online browsing. As your children grow into young adults you don’t want to be invasive in terms of looking at what they are browsing online so it really is a great thing that these controls can be altered to be more lenient when it is suitable.

Encouraging Your Children to Spend Less Time With Technology

One of the best ways to make sure that your children are not watching inappropriate content would have to be encouraging them to spend more time doing activities that do n0ot revolve around going online or watching videos. It can be very beneficial to both your own and your child’s physical and mental health to dedicate a few hours a day doing something healthy away from technology, your children are only going to want to play on their devices more and more as they get older so spending time with them when they are young is a great way to preserve their innocence and have some fun.

Videos and Television

It is a common worry that the content and videos your children watch on the TV and online are not suitable for their age group, with top platform Youtube being one of the most concerning streaming sites out there. The thing about Youtube is that it has turned into a huge money-making platform so it is not always clear what people’s true intentions are when they make a video, and in fact, you can actually buy real views on youtube to make it seem like you are doing better than you are. With this in mind, I would highly recommend that you put parental controls onto your child’s account so that you can make sure they are not watching things that they shouldn’t be, and that they are not being exposed to any creators whose intentions are not in the right place and their focus is on the money they can make.

How to Protect your Children while they are Gaming Online

As you may well know, gaming online is hugely popular amongst children. Social media and online gaming have become the primary method of communication and social interaction for the younger generations. By using smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, and laptops, children have access to games pretty much anytime, anyplace. It’s not unusual to become worried for the safety of your child as they game online. I know I definitely worried. If you are looking to protect children from cyberbullying, addictive behaviors, or even malware from dodgy websites, here are a few simple strategies that can help you.

Communication is key

Agree with your children on how long and when they can play. Set boundaries to make sure that they do not spend all of their time playing online and feel alienated from the ‘real’ world. Come up with a schedule with set hours that seems reasonable. You could also introduce them to other hobbies and activities so that online gaming doesn’t become their only interest. They will highly benefit from a bit of diversity and structure, as it will help them focus on other tasks such as school homework or being with their friends. And when comes the time to play they will appreciate it even more and not take it for granted.

Maintaining privacy

Online games are often played using an online chat; make sure that your children are using nicknames that do not reveal their true identity. Talk to them about not sharing any of their personal information such as; passwords addresses and phone numbers. I have found that my kids were more sensible and careful once I informed them of some of the dangers. Children like to feel trusted. If you inform them and trust them, rather than punish them for any mistakes they make, they are far more likely to stay safe online.

Install parental control software

Parental control tools, such as filters and blocks, will help you manage what your children are exposed to while online. A lot of adverts and pop-ups can contain malware or inappropriate material. You can also have control over time-limits, meaning your children cant play longer than their designated hours. This software may take some time to install and set-up. But it is well worth it for the peace of mind.

Engage with your children’s interests

The games our children play may be different from the games you may play. But one key tactic in making sure your children are being safe is to engage with them and play their games. Even though rainbow six is one of my favorite games, I was more than happy to give Fortnite a try considering how much my children love it. Spending time with them while gaming is a great way to bond with them as well as keeping them safe.

Prevent your kids from too much isolation

Loneliness in children is not unheard of. But it is an issue that is often ignored. And it is one of the driving forces that lead to childhood gaming addiction. So it is important you make sure your child is engaging, not only with you but with other children in the real world. Maybe sign them up for some sports activities or after-school clubs.
